Why's Mozilla better than Netscape? I always thought they were basically the same thing...

And they are... Netscape first released their own browsers, which were the best until 4.0; from that point, Internet Explorer kicked Netscape's ass (every Netscape 4.x sux0red in everything from speed to stability), plus IE was "free" (comes with Windows) and Netscape was a separate product which just couldn't survive. Netscape skipped the 5.x generation, and worked on server applications. Much later, AOL bought Netscape, and since they wanted an alternative browser to IE, but no company is going to do that for free, they released the Netscape source code to the open source community and created Mozilla.org, an organization to develop this browser.

Mozilla.org began releasing browsers every few months, and once they got good enough, AOL took a couple versions and named them "Netscape", used the same logos and bundled it with AIM, Java, and other stuff, to provide a full Internet package mainly for their customers. Netscape 7.1 was the same as Mozilla 1.4; however, it was easier to install and had less trouble with this or that, also coming with pre-installed plugins.

However, AOL doesn't seem interested on releasing more Netscapes. Mozilla 1.5 and 1.6 have been released after NS7.1, and they are basically newer versions of the same browser. That's why I'm switching to Mozilla and recommending them.

New recommended browser: Mozilla 1.6 (mozilla.org) with MozTweak and some special options set.

Coming soon in Mozilla 1.7 the long awaited smooth scrooling (what IE does).

*BUMP*

You know you're a geek when you prefer monospaced fonts over regular... I'm reading fanfics in Lucida Console because it's easier to read for me... Verdana is my favorite font ever, but it's not fixed spacing. Second favorite would be your good old (ancient actually ) IBM VGA 80x25:9x16 font.

Yet more news. Physical teleportation of massed particles has been achieved. More details here.

<u>Unus Mundus Network possible?</u>

Xenosaga described the "Unus Mundus Network", the Internet of the future, as established through the space using resonant particles to transfer information without physical links with zero delay, based on the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) Paradox.

Technobabbling? Not really.

?It relies on a strange behaviour that exists at the atomic scale known as "entanglement", whereby two particles can have related properties even when they are far apart. Einstein called it a "spooky action".?
<font size="2" face="Verdana,sans-serif">Sometimes I like to compare Xenosaga to 2001: A Space Odyssey, as both seem to suggest technologies with just as much imagination as logic and intelligence, some of which eventually came/will come to birth.

Sorry, but got a virus, and need some help getting rid of it.

AVG found it, but can't delete it, it's called: Trojan Horse Downloader.Keenval.E, and it's infected the file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\UPDMGR\UPDMGR.exe

How can I get rid of this, Miguel?
<font size="2" face="Verdana,sans-serif">I think you had to get that through either Internet Explorer (this is the kind of think I mentioned in my comparison) or KaZaA (I don't recommend using it).

Keenval is not a virus or a troja, but a malware of the adware family, possibly including spyware. Not too dangerous, but nothing you want to have in your machine, especially because it may take advantage of Internet Explorer to install further malware which can be more dangerous than itself.

So let's kick to death that damned malware: (Note: if you can't do any of the steps because some file or key doesn't exist, skip forwards.)

1. (Optional, personal recommendation) Uninstall any KaZaA client you have.

2. Check your uninstall page (Control panel, Add or remove programs), and uninstall anything of the following if you find it: KeenValue, IncrediFind, PerfectNav, eUniverse.

3. If you're running Windows ME or Windows XP, disable system restore (howto) and reboot.

4. Go here and follow the instructions in the "Manual removal" section. If you can't delete the .exe file, press Control+Shift+Esc, go Processes, select the .exe you can't remove, click Terminate process, Yes, and try deleting again.

5. C:\Program Files\Common Files\KeenValue and delete everything, including the folder. If you can't delete some .exe file, press Control+Shift+Esc, go Processes, select the .exe you can't remove, click Terminate process, Yes, and try deleting again.

6. Open Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run , delete the KeenValue key. Then delete the whole registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\KeenValue and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\eUniverse
.

7. Reboot.

8. If you're running Windows ME or Windows XP, enable system restore (howto) and reboot.

9. (Optional, personal recommendation) Run for all your disks AVG, Ad-aware and Spybot (all of these are free), updating their virus/malware definitions before you run them. Also run AVG on everything you download, and run Ad-aware and Spybot them weekly.

10. (Optional, personal recommendation) Other personal recommendations: Don't use Internet Explorer, don't install any software you know it's bundled with adware (including KaZaA, there are better file sharers which don't come with shit). Consider even if you need them, they'll screw j00 while and after you use them, and do things that are never desirable, so avoid all adware at any cost. Also open a command console and type: "attrib -a +r c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" (without the "", replace WINDOWS by your Windows directory (typically Windows or Winnt)).

Hope it helps
